Underfitting is easier to explain

- Learning is compression: you take what you've seen and squeeze it into a model you can act on.
- The cheap failure is underfitting: a model with too little capacity for the data, like a straight line through a curve.
- Nuance is the residual, everything the model leaves unexplained; keep all of it and you have no model, drop all of it and you have a slogan.
- A model is also how you explain yourself to others and what an identity is built on, which is why the short one spreads.
